From Project Teams

To Agile Teams

To Teams of Teams

Waterfall Projects

Most project teams today are following the Waterfall Methodology. There is a project manager with a PMP certification, and a temporary team is assembled for multiple months to deliver a project.

Waterfall Projects

Agile software development isn't the solution to every problem. Waterfall projects aren't going away. What we want to establish, though, are team identities that are long-lived so that long-term relationships and deep subject matter expertise can be established.

Waterfall Projects

We told you Waterfall wasn't going away. As more and more teams move to Scaled Agile, Product Line teams, the cadence and dependencies of Waterfall projects changes. Submitting a ticket in a queue or trying to get 50% of someone's time may look more like working with a Product Owner.

Iterative Waterfall

Project teams follow an iterative approach, with some adherence to agile principles. Teams are assembled for the life of a project, and terms like "Scrum Lead", "Sprint", and "Stand-ups" are used.

Agile Waterfall

Agile waterfall takes Iterative Waterfall to the next level by doing two things. 1) Establishing consistent agile best practices across all teams, and 2) moving away from 'project teams', to long-living agile teams.

Scaled Agile ARTs

A Scaled Agile, Agile Release Train, AKA ART, is a long-lived team of teams aligned to incrementally deliver value.

Product Line POC Teams

The IT PMO in collaboration with Elovoro and now Metis began in 2021 to take 12 teams, or teams of teams, and mature team practices to more consistent agile best-practices and product line management.

Product Line POC Teams

POC teams in this phase are rapidly improving their agile maturity and performing with consistent agile best-practices. In addition, teams are becoming long-lived with established Product Owners and Scrum Leads, all aligned to specific product-lines.

POC Product Line Teams

Many POC teams at this stage, will be aligned to products through Scaled Agile Release Trains. There may be some teams that do not require the level of synchronization that Scaled Agile brings, but we'll look at that with you on a case-by-case basis.

Kanban Teams

Teams that use Kanban best practices are setup to support workloads with high volatility and rapidly changing priorities. If your work is primarily queue based, i.e. ServiceNow Requests, this may be for you!
