Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with SIG.
What does Stephens Insight Group do?
SIG is an enterprise transformation consultancy. We work with VP PMOs, TPMO leaders, and Portfolio executives to close the gap between capital investment and real execution outcomes. That means SAFe implementations that actually stick, lean portfolio management connected to real business results, and AI adoption that fits your delivery model. Unlike large firms that deliver reports and move on, SIG works alongside your teams to implement the change.
Who does SIG typically work with?
SIG works with VP PMOs, TPMO leaders, and Portfolio executives at large enterprises. These are the people accountable for governing capital spend, running the transformation office, and closing the gap between strategic investment and real execution outcomes. If you are responsible for making transformation work at scale, you are exactly who SIG is built for.
How is SIG different from the big consulting firms?
Large firms often steamroll existing plans. They arrive assuming greenfield, move without the compliance and regulatory constraints your internal teams live inside every day, and promise timelines that only work when you can ignore the bureaucracy the rest of your organization cannot. The result is a transformation that looks clean on paper and breaks down the moment they leave. SIG is different because we work inside the reality of your organization, not around it. We account for what already exists, what the regulatory environment requires, and what your teams can actually sustain. Every engagement is practitioner-led and measured against outcomes your internal stakeholders will recognize as real.
What are SIG’s engagement options?
SIG offers two engagement models. The Advisory Retainer is a starting-at-$1,000/month option for VP PMOs who need a trusted thought partner without a full embedded engagement. The Embedded Engagement is a scoped, hands-on commitment for organizations ready to close the gap between capital investment and real execution outcomes. Visit the Investment page for full details.
How long does an enterprise transformation typically take?
A focused engagement around a specific capability (like implementing SAFe at the team level) can show meaningful results in 90 days. A broader organizational transformation typically unfolds over 12 to 24 months. SIG builds phased roadmaps so organizations see early wins while building toward lasting change.
What industries does SIG work with?
SIG’s background is rooted in healthcare IT and executive leadership. We work with enterprise organizations across healthcare, technology, and financial services.
What is SAFe, and why does it matter for my organization?
SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) is the leading framework for scaling agile across large enterprises. Our consultants hold SPC certification, but that’s not what makes the difference. What matters is that we have been on both sides of a SAFe transformation. We have coached executives and release train engineers through the hardest parts of the change, and we have been the internal leaders being coached, accountable for making it work inside a real organization with real constraints. That dual perspective is what separates practitioners from people who have only read the framework. If your SAFe implementation isn’t producing the outcomes you expected, or you are just getting started and want to do it right, we know what that work actually takes.
Does SIG work with organizations that are just starting their transformation journey?
Yes, and that’s often the best time to engage. SIG helps early-stage efforts with readiness assessments, roadmapping, and foundational capability building before committing to a large-scale rollout.
How does SIG incorporate AI into its work?
AI is built into every SIG engagement. SIG consultants aren’t watching AI from the sidelines. We’re actively using it, teaching it, and building it into client work. Every engagement includes an honest assessment of where AI can help teams move faster, cut waste, and make better decisions. SIG also addresses AI governance and legislation so organizations aren’t caught flat-footed as the landscape evolves.
How does SIG measure the success of an engagement?
We measure against outcomes that matter to the people accountable for capital spend. That means portfolio throughput, time-to-value on strategic initiatives, reduction in waste and rework, and whether delivery teams can sustain the change without continued outside support. We establish baseline metrics at the start of every engagement and review them with your leadership throughout. An engagement isn’t successful if you can’t point to specific business results at the end of it.
Can SIG work with my team remotely?
Yes. SIG works with organizations nationally and delivers engagements both in-person and virtually. SIG is based in West Michigan.
What results can I expect from a SIG engagement?
Faster time-to-value on initiatives, improved alignment between leadership and delivery teams, measurable reduction in waste and rework, and teams that can sustain the change after the engagement ends.
How do I get started with SIG?
The best first step is a conversation. Visit the Contact page to reach out, or explore the Investment page. Our team responds personally to initial inquiries.
How long before we see results from an engagement?
It depends on scope, but most clients see meaningful movement within the first 60 to 90 days. We structure every engagement to produce early wins, not just a diagnostic, so your leadership has something tangible to point to while the deeper work continues. Milestones and reporting are built into the engagement from the start so you always know where things stand.
What does a typical engagement timeline look like?
Advisory Retainers are ongoing monthly relationships with no fixed end date. Most clients use them for six to twelve months. Embedded Engagements are scoped by outcome, not by time, but typically run three to six months for an initial phase. We don’t pad timelines and we don’t manufacture dependency. When the work is done, we say so.
What happens if the engagement isn’t working?
We have direct conversations. If something isn’t landing, whether that’s an approach, a team dynamic, or a scope mismatch, we address it directly rather than letting it drift. Our engagements include regular check-ins with your leadership specifically so those conversations happen early, not after months of misalignment. We would rather recalibrate than deliver something that doesn’t create value.
Do you work with organizations that are mid-transformation, or only at the start?
Most of our clients come to us mid-transformation. The pattern is usually the same: an initiative is six to eighteen months in, the results aren’t matching the investment, and leadership needs an honest outside perspective on what’s actually happening. We are comfortable stepping into complex, already-in-motion situations. That is where practitioners add the most value.
How do you work alongside our existing internal teams without creating conflict?
We work with your teams, not around them. Our goal is to build capability inside your organization, not create dependency on us. We are direct about what we observe, but we bring that feedback in ways that strengthen your internal leaders rather than undermining them. We have worked alongside PMO teams, transformation offices, and delivery teams across large enterprises and we know how to operate inside an existing structure.
What industries do you work in?
We work primarily with large enterprises undergoing significant transformation, organizations where the complexity of scale, compliance, and organizational dynamics is real. Our experience spans financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology. The specific industry matters less than the nature of the problem. If you are accountable for governing capital spend and closing the gap between strategy and execution, the work translates.
How do we justify this investment to our CFO or CPO?
The case is usually straightforward: what is the cost of the current gap? If strategic initiatives are stalling, capital is being deployed without clear return, or your transformation is consuming resources without producing outcomes, the cost of inaction is already significant. We help you frame the ROI in terms your CFO and CPO will recognize: portfolio throughput, time-to-value on strategic programs, and reduction in rework. We are happy to work through that framing with you before an engagement starts.
Do you offer a pilot or smaller starting point before a full engagement?
Yes. The Advisory Retainer starting at $1,000 per month is designed for exactly that. It gives you direct access to SIG consultants to pressure-test your thinking, get a second opinion on what you’re seeing, and evaluate fit before committing to a larger embedded engagement. Many of our embedded clients started there.
How many clients do you work with at once?
We deliberately keep our client load small. SIG is not built for volume, it is built for depth. We limit active embedded engagements so that every client gets senior-level attention throughout, not just at kickoff. If we are at capacity when you reach out, we will tell you directly and discuss timing.
What does “practitioner-led” actually mean in practice?
It means the people doing the work have done this work before, not as consultants advising from the outside, but as leaders who have run transformation programs from inside large organizations. They have been accountable for outcomes, navigated the politics, managed the stakeholders, and dealt with the realities most consulting frameworks ignore. When a SIG consultant walks into your organization, they are not learning what corporate transformation looks like. They already know.
How does AI fit into transformation work? Is this just a trend you’re chasing?
AI is changing how delivery teams work, how portfolios get prioritized, and how organizations think about capacity and throughput. We don’t treat it as separate from transformation, we treat it as a dimension of it. SIG helps organizations build the governance and operating models to adopt AI in ways that actually work inside their existing structure and compliance requirements. We are not selling AI hype. We are helping leadership make sense of it and operationalize it without the chaos that usually follows when adoption outpaces organizational readiness.
